Once upon a time, there lived an elderly farmer in a village. He had four sons. They always quarreled with one another. So, the farmer was unhappy. He wanted to teach them a good lesson. So, he hit upon a plan. He called them and told them to bring four sticks and some rope. Then he tied the sticks in a bundle. At first, he ordered his eldest son to break the bundle. He tried his best but failed. Then he told the second, third and fourth son to break the bundle by turn. But none could break the bundle. Then he untied the bundle and told them to break the sticks. This time they could easily break the sticks. Then the elderly man told his sons, My sons, you are like the sticks. When you are united, you are strong. But when you are alone, you are weak. The sons understood the lesson and gave up quarreling. Then they promised to remain united.

একতাই শক্তি

এক সময় এক গ্রামে এক বৃদ্ধ কৃষক থাকতেন। তার চার ছেলে ছিল। তারা সবসময় একে অপরের সাথে ঝগড়া করত। সুতরাং, কৃষক অসন্তুষ্ট ছিল। তিনি তাদের একটি ভাল শিক্ষা দিতে চেয়েছিলেন। সুতরাং, তিনি একটি পরিকল্পনা রপ্ত করেছেন। তিনি তাদের ডেকে চারটি লাঠি এবং কিছু দড়ি আনতে বলেছিলেন। এরপর তিনি লাঠিগুলো একটি বান্ডিলে বেঁধে রাখেন। প্রথমে তিনি তার বড় ছেলেকে বান্ডিলটি ভেঙে ফেলার নির্দেশ দেন। তিনি যথাসাধ্য চেষ্টা করেও ব্যর্থ হন। এরপর তিনি দ্বিতীয়, তৃতীয় ও চতুর্থ পুত্রকে পালাক্রমে বান্ডিলটি ভেঙে ফেলতে বলেন। কিন্তু কেউই বান্ডিল ভাঙতে পারেনি। তারপরে তিনি বান্ডিলটি খুলে ফেলেন এবং লাঠিগুলি ভেঙে ফেলতে বলেন। এবার তারা সহজেই লাঠি ভেঙে ফেলতে পারে। তখন বৃদ্ধ তার পুত্রদের বললেন, হে আমার পুত্রগণ, তোমরা লাঠির মত। যখন আপনি একতাবদ্ধ হন, তখন আপনি শক্তিশালী হন। কিন্তু যখন আপনি একা থাকেন, তখন আপনি দুর্বল হয়ে পড়েন।” ছেলেরা সেই শিক্ষা বুঝতে পেরেছিল এবং ঝগড়া করা ছেড়ে দিয়েছিল। এরপর তারা ঐক্যবদ্ধ থাকার প্রতিশ্রুতি দেন।
